Can patients use their HSA card to pay for membership?

< 1 min read

Yes, many patients pay for their memberships with their HSA card.

If patients want to use their HSA to pay for their membership, we suggest posting preventive services to their walkout statement. Rather than adjusting them or zeroing out their account balance, assign a fee to the patient that will total the cost of your membership program. As an example, you could divide the total membership fee by 5 across their annual cleanings, exams, and a set of bitewing radiographs (2 cleanings, 2 exams, and 1 bitewing) and assign that figure to each of the preventive services.

This way, you can provide them a detailed receipt that shows the membership total, which they will pay with their HSA card.

At this point, you can adjust the totals from their account after providing their receipt.

Charging their HSA card through the dashboard should not be a problem since it is supported by Visa/MC/Discover/American Express
